All these are getting me excited!!!
To all the keys softies please post updates here alright : )

On other hand, I'm more pessimistic about the state of this NAMM.

What Yamaha has a rehash of current technology. It feels more like a stop gap measure until they come out with something really impressive

Clavia looks it's producing a dual keyboard organ, something that has been tried before with out much success in recent years.

Last the Moog LP is the limited edition in a different colour and without the Robert Moog faceplate.

Talking of Yamaha - anyone have any ideas or heard any gossip on the next gen of QY sequencers or their successors? I 've had a QY70 for a couple of years and it's looking decidedly dated next to gleaming iPods, Micro BRs etc...

Roland is releasing next version of MV-8000 called as MV 8800 with color screen and lots'a feature....

QY

isn't there are QY100 and QY700 ?
i dun think Yamaha will release any more QY series sequencers.

Bong,

In the world of Audio DAW's and Computer based workstations..Who the hell looking for these type of sequencers unless they are available cheap than a PC...

Everything is now virtual instrument.....Even Roland's latest MV8000 was a failure model..Yamaha stopped on QY series long ago....

oh yes, that's why I say YAMAHA will not release any more QY series...

however, for QY70 and QY100, it's a good portable batteries
powered device to bring around if any thunderous idea hit you!

myself own a QY70. now with me in camp...

KORG will unveil over 10 new products !!!

good grieve, looks like KORG made plentiful
from their workstations for the past decade that
now they are releasing new products annually ?

I wonder long can the OASYS flagship last?
will a P4 2.8GHz CPU product be up to standard
in 3 years time?

The Korg oasys might be good but too much thing in one console might make it over complicated and also might not have enough power to run. its better to stick to gears that are design exclusively for a certain type of synthesis .

Joel68 - not everyone is hardcore PC workstation sequencer based. I for example am a guitarist and want a quick and easy (and cheap) to use gadget that is portable, and integrated all-in-one. My QY works well for me for knocking up simple backing tracks.

I believe there is still a large market for these given that Yamaha released about 5 iterations of the QY sequencers even though PC and Mac based recording was already a part of the landscape. I hope so anyway. :)

Cheers

well weather its recording or performing i guess everyone have its own indiviual way to do it. as long as the results goes through, it dosent really matter which way we use to do it. :)

>> I believe there is still a large market for these given that Yamaha released about 5 iterations of the QY sequencers even though PC and Mac based recording was already a part of the landscape. I hope so anyway

But right now things are a little different.
A laptop is powerful enought to run a high end sequencers and a few plug in at the same time. Does not make much sense to reinvent the wheel.

On top of that Yamaha now owns one of the most popular sequencer in the world, Cubase. Does not make much sense to cannibalise sales by release more hardware sequencers.

ps - for those who are not aware of this yet; part of Yamaha Motif synth soundset is supposed to be in Cubase 4 sample playback softsynth.

Well, I'm not arguing with you, just offering some observations.

Take PC based recording as an example, and then look at the Boss Micro BR - a handheld, iPod sized 4-track digital recorder. Boss couldn't produce these fast enough after launch and are still facing supply problems. They haven't even arrived here yet, months after the launch due to availability; it's enormously popular. Yes, I know a PC based recording solution is more sophisticated and powerful, but it's nowhere near as convenient. I turn it on, It's ready to go immediately.

IMHO - in this day and age, people LOVE gizmos. Laptops are great, but I can't put it in my pocket. If Yamaha released a QY the size of an iPod with a sexy backlit screen and snazzy UI, I think it'd sell very well.

Vernplum,

I dont take a direct hit at guys who use QY kinda stuff. I am just taking a look at current market as a "business guy". Which product is saleable ..in what way...all the commercial matters...

Yamaha , Korg and Roland are only the synth companies compete a lot in the current scenario....where as other companies..come second...

BTW., Rumour that Korg is gonna come with a LE version of Oasys which is close to Triton Extreme range price....big talk on Korg Forums... 8)

Joel - I know - don't worry. I wasn't admonishing you. :)

Similarly - with my 'business guy' hat on, my personal view is that the market is ripe for 'gizmos' such as these. Well, I live in hope. :)

I understand your need. However what you need may not be what the market needs.

Some time ago, people were discussing why Roland did not re-release the TB-303 in the analog form and how well it would sell if Roland it, given the popularity of the Propellerheads Rebirth. .

But someone voiced the concern that those are the same few pople who would buy it. Others would just view it as a curiosity and move on.

A earlier lesson could be see in the Roland JD-800, released when some people were arguing for more knobs on their synths. Unfortunately, it didn't sell very well.

So, a company, like Yamaha would probably do a market survey before lauching into a project like this and not depend on the views of a few e-mail to the marketing department.
