Hi guys! im new here. im picking up electric guitar after my O levels , and i need some advice. im looking for a budget guitar with a floyd rose bridge and after checking out peninsula and internet i was intent on the Ibanez GRG-270.
heres the catch theres a WALL of reviews that slams the ILT1 bridge for tuning stability. i also recently saw a thread here about the GRG-370 having a edge 3 trem.

the 370 is a hundred bucks more than the 270 can any1 offer me ur views on both these guitars and which is better? i really have no idea which one to get=.=

Hey man! get any guitar you want! theres a swee lee sale tmr and sunday. I reckon you might find something cheap and good there. I know theres a grg that costs bout 212 aft discount. so go for the sale tmr! Good luck!

PS. I'm not sure bout the locking trems, but i reckon all the ibanez locking trems are pretty much the same. Unless you go for the zpr or zps or something liddat. Otherwise, don't crack you head over the trem systems. Just enjoy playing your music, thats most important. Or else youre gonna find yourself getting bored and stop playing. (If you are just trying out guitaring for fun)

Good luck for your O's too! I damn scared I fail sia. I hope I can get pass the mcq well.
Ciao!!!!

dood if u're just picking up electric guitar, my advice is dun go straight for a floyd rose bridge. reason being unless u're going to fully utilise it, u'll find the pain in the ass it is to change tunings or strings isn't worth it being there. if u so desperately want a non-fixed bridge just go for a dive only whammy bar, also known as the tremolo. other than that, pick any guitar u want! if it makes u excited to look at it, it makes u wanna practice more :)

i might be wrong, but are you talking about the Grg270?

Cause if you are it has a ILT1 bridge, it says liscensed Floyd Rose but people are cursing and swearing at it, dont ask me why, i dont know :P

Cause according to the Ibanez Website, i can't find any info about the Grg 370 except some random forum posts, but those are quite rare.

however, why limit yourself to these 2 models?

It is just me or there are lots of peeps taking up guitar after O's?

WORD! , at least 3 other idiots in my class (who totally dont look like they like music) wants to.

Thanks for them quick posts, prolly dun have time to check out the sale, sounds fun=(, dad making me stay at home revise mcq.
in response to lemonade, u have any good floyd rose bridge guitarsbelow the 550 bucks price range to intro? id gladly appreciate the recommendation:D
the salesman at the guitar shop in penin kept insisting the grg270 would stay in perfect tune, good salesmanship only i think

Floating bridges on budget guitars aren't reccomended as they are sometimes...well... crappy, with your budget, you cant go wrong

Buy the Ibanez SA260FM

FYI Swee Lee End of year sales :)

Should be able to get it around your budget :)

Actually, i'd advise you to go used for a good floyd guitar for under $550. The SA260FM is a good choice. I would recommend the OLP MM1 (used of course, its discontinued) + a change in bridge to a OFR or Wilkinson(up to you). The guitar should cost you around $250 and the bridge around $300.

My budgets around 900 for both guitar and amp(after one month of work of course=.=)
I ditched my idea of buying the Gio series. what are the opinions around here about the RG350DX/370? im also considering the S470 seeing as it has a ZR trem. Appreciate the views:D

Hey. Why do you want a Floyd Rose Bridge?
Honestly at your budget, I don't think you can get a decent one, although I might be wrong. My Gio is a floating trem, not floyd rose, and I had to hard tail it to get it to stay in tune.

I really don't recommend you get a FR bridge, especially if you're new to guitar.

i'm not crazy over it, if it's good it's good.

I don't want to pay 1k for a crap guitar when i can pay 600 ish for a good guitar

What Revelt said is true, at that price, you might not be able to get a guitar with a decent floyd rose bridge, and like his, may make your guitar fall out of tune easily. Furthermore, let's not forget about all the maintenance you're gonna have to go through with the floyd rose bridge. Assuming you don't know how to DIY, and like all guitars you're gonna have to send it for set up, which will cost more than a guitar with a fixed bridge.

Floyd Rose bridges are a lot more tedious, like all floating tremolo bridges, you're gonna have to adjust the spring tension at the back of the guitar to match your string gauge whenever you make a change in that. And the list just goes on... blah blah blah

But that's just my two cents, I'm not entirely giving you a big 'NO' towards floyd rose bridges. If you like the guitar, go get it! It's >your< instrument, so what's most important is that >you< feel good with it, who are we to tell you otherwise? I love my NZS-1, I think it feels and sounds perfect, but that doesn't mean you, lemonade93 or Revelt will like it. Cheers. :D

You know I love your guitar, Maxy. Lol.

And To be honest, I almost got a FR when I started out too, because it seems like a lot of good guitarists use it. But I've come to realise that the whammy bar is totally useless for me, and I thank that guy at Swee Lee for telling me to go for this instead of the FR one (Yes. I was that close to screwing up.).
This is why I suggest you seriously reconsider your decision, unless you're hell bent on being Singapore's Herman Li.
