erm... guy i have got my guitar now 8) thinking of getting a amp around 15w. i have 2 in my mind Marshall MG15cdr and the Vox pathfinder which 1 will you guy recommaned?

Hmm.

Hahahah... sorry just had to laugh out loud because I used to own the MG-15CDR and I made the upgrade to a Pathfinder 15R.

The Pathfinder is relatively good enough on it's own. Looking to get a 12" speaker and mod the amp though...

Hmm.

Well I'll recommend the pathfinder to you if you're saying that your budget is limited to $168 (list price at luthermusic).

Do you have a higher budget?

Hmm.

Well for that budget, it would be good to invest in the Vox because:

1. Great sound for a practise amp
2. Loud enough for bedroom
3. Good default clean and over-driven tones
4. Has a speaker-out jack so you can add additional speaker cabinet
5. Relatively good re-sale value (but of course depends on the state of the amp) compared to the Marshall.

Oh yes, and with the surplus cash, grab yourself a set of decent cables at luther and any patch cables you might require

IMO i would choose Ibanez Tone Blaster ... it have really nice overdrive tone ... and it have sensitive EQ , so u can get pretty decent range of sound ... IMO MG15CDR , is really crappy , too crappy in fact , as for vox pathfinder ... i still cant compare cuz i havent testeed it out ...

Hmmmm................if u'd jus afford abt another $80, u'd be able to get the Laney HCM30R frm Swee Lee. Very good overdrive tones and wonderful cleans too. Has 3 external outs for headphones, speaker and footswitch so u can actually connect 2 speaker cabinets to it! 10" speaker, 3 band EQ. Has an extremely durable speaker casing to boot, 100% stainless steel. I've kicked mine several times in frustration and the front didn't even dent. Here's how it looks like:

Or else, within ur budget, the Pathfinder is an EXCELLENT choice, THE best small practice amp i have ever come across(I haven't tried those Kustom amps with 12" speaker and 15w yet though). The Marshall jus doesn't cut it. Abt those Kustom amps, u cld go to Esden Trading at Sim Lim Square(or is it Sim Lim Tower? Someone correct me if i'm wrong) and try them out. Frm wat i've heard, they shld be within ur budget or maybe a little bit out and they are excellent amps for use in the bedroom or even for gigs. Let ur ears be the judge.

Hmm.

The reason why I like the Pathfinder is that despite it's 2-band EQ, the two knobs are very interactive with one another. Apart from that, the gain and volume knob somehow behave like how a tube amp behaves. Make no mistake, the sound is pretty close to how a tube is like, but not exactly like the real thing.

yeah, the hcm30R is around there, but i thought laney changed the hcm series to hcx or something like that? but i think the vox is really value for money man.

are the roland mircocube sound samples on their for real???

the r-fier is like woah for a smal amp liek tt? i serously doubt it came purely from the amp.

it had liek pantera written all over it.

btw how much does it cost at swee lee??

i took crawldaddy's advice and got myself a secondhand pathfinder for $120 and i've never been happier. it's a kickass amp, and even at low levels for late night practice, it still rocks my socks.

whee.
