problem with bass !

hi, i recently just started playing bass. and i just bought mine. I use the cable and try to plug it into the amp, which was horrible tough.
[am i suppose to force?]

finally, i got through. I plug the other side of the cable onto the amp. then i switch on the amp. the sound that came out was like a high pitch frequency sound. all that i got out, even though i play on the bass, all i hear was the high pitch frequency.

any help ? .. to solve this ? .. i heard that standing away from the bass amp and not to put it in some place where there is alot of electronics. [which i did. but it didn't help]

p.s it is a squier J affintiy bass and a rumble15 fender bass amp.

high pitch as in loud EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?

or maybe its just the hum?

yup EEEEEEE, it's the cable. when i change it, it works like normal .. thanks anyways
