sigh..

i've never seen the birth of ridicule far more obvious than with bad obsession being headliners for the gig... christ's sake, give me some real original bands and not a bunch of guys who dress, swear and try too hard to act like guns n roses..it's no wonder the local music scene hasn't been able to produce any huge record selling bands..sigh...you ain't a real musician till you can write yer own material... \m/

1. Bad Obsession has released an EP with 4 self-penned songs.
2. If you really think it's that easy to be original these days, then your head is so far up your arse you're probably tasting gastric juice everytime you talk.
3. The reason why the local music scene can't produce any 'huge record selling bands' - most local bands have nothing genuine to offer, and they REMAIN local. You really think you can get multi-platinum, or gold even, just by selling your stuff here?

not to put down bad obsession in any way (they're all very talented individuals), but I think allura is more of headliner material?

different people have different ideas though =) and BO is more than capable of pulling a big crowd and rocking them out

Some musicians create, some perform. Those who can create and can't perform, will hook up with those who can perform and can't create. Of course, some can do both. More power to them. *shrug*

Are actors not actors if they don't write their own scripts/lines? :)

Bottom line: entertain.

\\m//

I'm going there for Bad Obsession, West Grand Boulevard and Withered Tree! Oh, and A Vacant Affiar too, never had the chance to watch them perform before; I heard that they're awesome!

Directions please.

Just wondering, how do I get there? I know that it's near City Hall. Is there any bus to get there or something? I don't wanna hop into a cab coz it's so expensive nowadays!

firstly i wouldn't compare actors to musicians, secondly my head is perfectly suited where it is..thirdly,i don't find the logic in "butchering" cover songs just to get people to listen to yer crappy originals.. i'm not against covering songs but at least have the decency to do it in yer own style to reflect your true genuine musician qualities, not be a sebastian bach or axl rose clone..period..that's not entertaining, that's pure rip off..

like johnny solinger did with 'I Remember You'?

some songs are best covered the way they were originally written. you think anyone would like hearing 'Paradise City' sung in the same style as (for example purposes only) 'Lithium' or 'Beautiful People'?

at the end of the day, if you as a musician, artist and performer enjoy what you're doing, and your crowd enjoys it too, that's all that really matters.

Eh, not a good example. All 3 songs have heavily distorted guitars. Find something which are of 2 different genres.

A Perfect Circle did a crappy job on Lennon's 'Imagine' but I thought they did an excellent one on Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On?'.

man.. how long is each set gonna be?..

i juz wanna see A Withered Tree..

too bad Dyna Turmoil, Trella and The Novemeber Iris won't be there..

At the end of the day, we do what we do because we enjoy it. There will be detractors, but there will also always be people who support what we do, and that is what keeps us constantly engaged whole-hearted in every show we do.

We love Rock n Roll and that's why we are playing it. Be it covering the bands that inspire us or writing 80's sounding material for the simplest reason, we are a 80's-influenced rock band.

I'm sure if you took time to listen to our EP, or even to go to myspace to listen before shooting your mouth off, i'm sure you wouldnt think we sounded like GnR in our songs. Same genre, yes, same sounding band? Probably not.
Unless off course you have such dazed ears causing you not to be unable to recognise a significant difference.

Trust me, if we wanted to come up with 'original'-sounding music, we could.

Anyway, i take it that you 'Lizardking', are generalising that a person can only be considered musician when they write and play originals?
By that statement, you have just insulted countless talents, most of whom have dedicated their lives to music and performance.

By that i mean pub musicians, cover bands, solo singers. I wont name any, but if you're abreast enough, you would probably be able to identify them yourself.

Honestly, it is tiring hearing and reading from people like yourself constantly complaining about bands, originality, showmanship, dress-sense and local music as a whole.

How about showing some support for a change instead of constantly repressing a scene which ironically, is often held at the center of discussion on the issue of the lack of support.

If i knew well enough, we'd probably get heat if we covered 'cry me a river' rock n roll style.

You swing on side, you get flamed, you swing the other, you get flamed too.

Bottomline, at least for me - do what you really enjoy. Because at the end of the day, its really what you planned out to do that matters along with the people involved that cared. Not those that stood in the way, not those that tried to put you down.

why do people who arent doing anything to help in the music scene or never make their opinions known wit knowing who they are always complain about everything.

only know how to complain, leave anonymous comments about the scene and yet noone knows who they are, because they still go for gigs anyway AND THEN go home and complain. seriously.
