At the end of the day, we do what we do because we enjoy it. There will be detractors, but there will also always be people who support what we do, and that is what keeps us constantly engaged whole-hearted in every show we do.
We love Rock n Roll and that's why we are playing it. Be it covering the bands that inspire us or writing 80's sounding material for the simplest reason, we are a 80's-influenced rock band.
I'm sure if you took time to listen to our EP, or even to go to myspace to listen before shooting your mouth off, i'm sure you wouldnt think we sounded like GnR in our songs. Same genre, yes, same sounding band? Probably not.
Unless off course you have such dazed ears causing you not to be unable to recognise a significant difference.
Trust me, if we wanted to come up with 'original'-sounding music, we could.
Anyway, i take it that you 'Lizardking', are generalising that a person can only be considered musician when they write and play originals?
By that statement, you have just insulted countless talents, most of whom have dedicated their lives to music and performance.
By that i mean pub musicians, cover bands, solo singers. I wont name any, but if you're abreast enough, you would probably be able to identify them yourself.
Honestly, it is tiring hearing and reading from people like yourself constantly complaining about bands, originality, showmanship, dress-sense and local music as a whole.
How about showing some support for a change instead of constantly repressing a scene which ironically, is often held at the center of discussion on the issue of the lack of support.
If i knew well enough, we'd probably get heat if we covered 'cry me a river' rock n roll style.
You swing on side, you get flamed, you swing the other, you get flamed too.
Bottomline, at least for me - do what you really enjoy. Because at the end of the day, its really what you planned out to do that matters along with the people involved that cared. Not those that stood in the way, not those that tried to put you down.
