This is the original Gary Willis GWB1 fretless bass built in Japan by expert builders to their and Gary's high quality standards. It has everything you would expect from a Gary Willis bass. The custom radiused Bartolini GWB1 pickup and Bartolini active electronics (Bartolini NTBT preamp), 9V battery. Radiused ramp. A volume knob that switches the bass to passive mode when pulled up and stacked bass/treble knobs.
In contrast to later versions (GWB 105, 1005, 35), the GWB1 has an EBONY fingerboard with centered pearl dot inlays. The head stock includes Gary's signature. The Ibanez GWB1 Fretless features a thin neck with 16.5 mm bridge string spacing, which allows fast finger movement all over the "fretboard". You've got to hear the low B string. Amazing!!! Excellent access to the upper frets on all strings. 3-piece maple neck, 34" scale length, 45mm nut width, Bartolini Willis bridge pickup with a push/pull volume knob to bypass the EQ, and a stacked EQ knob with treble and bass controls. The custom Bartolini electronics are really first class and create an excellent sound signal, whether active (recommended) or passive. In active mode, the electronics supply treble and bass boost or cut. In passive mode you'll be able to play even without a battery, although with a low level signal for the amp. A special feature of this bass is the Ramp, placed underneath the strings between fingerboard and pickup. It serves as a finger rest an prevents the player from "diggin in too hard", as Willis says. The ramp and the pickup match the curvature of the fingerboard to allow an extremely low string setup and by this a very amazing "purring", buzzing tone without comparison.

The low B on this bass is AMAZING!
It has been repainted to a beautiful satin Translucent Red.
