I am stuck with an XLR connection which I use for my mic.
Will getting a DI box enable me to use the mic and my PC's mp3 (connected through USB to the DI box) together without much distortion?

If so, will a passive one do?
What are the prices like? any recommendations on where to get such.

I'm getting that humming noise when connecting 3.5 to laptop. Even without power adaptor .
I guess a DI box with grd lift should solve the problem from YouTube search.
Can I know where to get a simple one and the rough pricing for it? Active or passive box?

I'd look into a small mixer if I were you. but you can experiment by bringing your laptop and mic to someone friendly selling DI box on soft, then test see if it solves your issue before buying.
