Default 100 greatest drum beats of all time.

100 greatest drum beats of all time. Countdown: from Bonham to drum machines. From Rhythm Magazine, Tue 21 Apr 2009

Thought I share this with this group: http://www.musicradar.com/news/drums...ll-time-204008

Ironic, but No. 95 definitely caught my eye:

95. Beat It – Michael Jackson
Who played it? Jeff Porcaro

Where to find it: Thriller, 1982

Why it's great: Toto sticksman Porcaro is better known for his big rock beats, but keeps it super tight and super clean on 'Beat It' – a masterpiece of economy.

I am sure there are a few MJ tracks up on that list BUT I think you will see a lot more Jeff Porcaro's tracks in there. Jeff is one of my drumming inspirations. Before the times of the Weckls and the Gadds, he was already a walking groove machine and a metronome.

His work on Toto, especially on the Rosanna half-time shuffle is legendary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwFdExvCxM4. A x-breed of Purdie and Bonham

Sadly, most of the younger drummers I talk to today have never heard of him. OR maybe that signifies how old I am ... :???:

RIP - Jeff and Michael.

On another note, my other inspiration Clyde Stubblefield has so much in that list. Awesome. Any funk drummer who doesnt know him or who he is needs to relook at what he/she is learning.

Hi William, I've definitely heard of Porcaro who combined Purdie's Babylon's Sister own half time shuffle with Bonham's take on the half-time shuffle with Fool in the Rain and came up with the Rosanna shuffle.

His wicked right hand can match most people playing 16th notes with both handss haha! I really like this guy, very grooving and tasteful playing!

Beat It is an awesome song. Not only did Jeff Porcaro record the grooves. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen recorded the guitar solo in the song!

How about Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears?

that's one hard beat and it's really awesome. it sounds simple but if your try it you'll have a hard time, same as Rosanna of Toto.
