Ok, to make the Buy/Sell section easier for everyone, we will try to standardize the following.
1. Start a new thread for each of your item and not a general thread like "Want to clear lots of stuff".
2. Title
Use the format WTS: Your Product
3. Details
Please include all details regarding the ad in your FIRST post. Any updates on availability or pricing should be edited into the FIRST post.
4. Include pix
Pictures should not be too large. Width should be no bigger than 600 pixels.
5. Do not indulge in small talk
6. Most importantly, DO NOT make multiple posts of the same ad
7. Do not post the same ad in more than 1 sub-section
8. Do not link to external site
9. Wait for at least 7 days before reposting an ad
10. No bumping. Otherwise the post will be removed
2. 1 item 1 thread.
I come to notice that some users like to use "Lots of stuff here" as thread title. It doesnt tell fellow users what is in the sale thread unless one click into it. Some users keep starting these kind of thread to have multiple threads of their item cos it was difficult for moderators to scan through them via the title.
With the new format of 1 item 1 thread, we can easily see who has been posting multiple threads (abuse). Just click on the user's profile and select "Find all threads started by ..."
haha i wanted 2 ask quite earlier on...
but i scared i sounded offensive...
oohhh seems reasonable... I really like the NO BUMPs thing...
Yea stating on the title like that will make it a lot easier for buyers (moderators as well)
But yah pushes posts back very fast loL... oh well!
Well, how about splitting up the Guitar Buy/Sell section? That would reduce the number of threads within one section. I think it makes more sense. Especially if the rule is staying about one item per thread.
And then there is the difficulty of policing that one item per thread... Does a gigbag with a guitar that can be sold separately or together constitute one item or two?
Or a Amp and its cabinet?
Or a cabinet and its speakers?
Delay pedal and the external tap tempo...

with all due respect, 1 item per thread is a complete joke and waste of space. i was just looking to clear out a bunch of small misceallaneous items but i really dont think i can be bothered now if i have to make a seperate post for each.
also, no small talk is pretty much missing the point of having a forum..discussion about the item, whether the seller likes it or not. posts like "nice guitar upz for you" and shit should be disallowed though.
What is in the 'bunch of small misceallaneous items'?
I think we must have some difference between the forum part and the Buy/Sell section. We can talk all we want in the forum but I think it is better if the Buy/Sell section can be use to just Buy/Sell things.
i personally feel that if you feel that the buy and sell forums is giving you so much headache, CLOSE IT. I've seen you agonizing over it for too long. if a simple buy and sell forum needs to be regulated to often and with such a firm hand, its no point having it.
with this you won't have issues with people bumping threads, banter, multiple item sales(?!) and so on and so forth. it will definitely ease the bandwidth.
i personally do not agree with the multiple item rules but thats just me.
I frequent the Jaben forum, and they have quite a good template for the BUY/SELL section. It works as it keeps things neat and minimal, yet all encompassing. You might want to consider adopting a modified version of it.
Here's an exerpt:
- Use the following abbreviations followed by a short description of the item in the TITLE field to indicate your intentions.:
WTS - Want to sell
WTB - Want to buy
WTT - Want to trade
- To maintain consistency in providing essential information, use the following sample template for ALL trade posting:
Description of Item: eg. Audio Techinica ATH-A900. Closed back headphones (Provide item details)
Condition : eg. 8/10 (1-10 scale. Please read this important thread)
Warranty : eg. Nil. (Indicate if there's any warranty left and the length)
Selling price : eg. $200 firm (Specify whether FIRM or NEG. Indicate other currencies, ie USD, GBP if not in SGD)
Preferred Location : eg. Red line MRT stations or town (Indicate the preferred transact location)
Preferred Mode of Contact : eg. Email me (indicate your choice of contact for inquiry, deal confirmation etc)
Contact Detail : eg. iamaseller@dunnowhere.com (phone number, email address)
- If the item is sold/bought, thread-starter must amend the title to include the word 'CLOSED". Once the thread is closed, moderator will lock the thread to prevent from further posting.
- The forum caters to people from all walks of life, all ages and from around the world; we request your co-operation to post in proper English, so that anyone viewing the board will be able to understand it. Profanity and use of vulgar language will not be condoned in all sub-forums.
I agree very strongly with the post above mine. Sounds like a good idea. Doing away with the buy/sell section is too extreme i think. Just look at the amount of viewers at the buy/sell section. Practically outnumbers all the rest of the sections viewers added together!
