Default Festival For A Future - 6th July 2008 At Glass Pavilion With Very Good Bands[Updated]

PURPOSE FOR THIS EVENT:

Festival for a Future (FFAF) is basically a rock-lovelovelove-fashion concert on Sunday, 6th July 2008, at Glass Pavilion, Far East Square, 2-10pm. We have two beneficiaries for the funds: 20% of them will go towards our school's Support An RGS Girl Fund, which caters to the less financially blessed students in our school; the other 80% will go towards the construction of a village school in China, a project which we have enlisted Citycare, a non profit organisation, to collaborate with us on.

The school will most probably be contructed in Wulong county, Chongqing, China, which is one of the poorest areas in the country. It will be taking the place of an existing government school, which as of now suffers chronic shortage of space (10 classrooms, approx 80pupils/class), deplorable conditions (no warmer OR ventilator - it ends up being freezing in winter and stuffy in summer) - despite the fact that it has under its ward 800 students, all village kids. China's policies for government schools specify that they are not allowed to turn away any student, and with its projected increase in enrolment at 100/year, the school is not only bursting at its seams but also looks to strain more and more each year. The new site will not only provide adequate classrooms but also new proposed facilities such as computer labs and dance studios to take the student's learning to a more comprehensive, holistic level. As of late, however, given the recent earthquake crisis in Sichuan, another possibility is that our funds will be directed towards fulfilling the more pressing needs there instead. As such, we are unable to prudently give a single definite answer as to where exactly the school is to be built, but it will definitely be a rural school with disadvantaged youth.

The main angle of this concert is one of youths helping youths. We feel, as youths privileged enough to be in positions such as our own, that it is only right for us to be helping youths who do not enjoy the same adequecies, financial or even educational, as ourselves. We firmly believe that education remains the most effective key to a brighter future and we hope enable more and more youths to enter the same gateway we ourselves have had the chance to. The parents of village children in Wulong come every beginning of the school term to cry and plead the school's staff to take their child in - we hope that with the construction of this new school, less or none of these parents will have to be turned away due to simply not having enough space to accomodate one more child, and one more future.

So we sincerely hope that this need for more accessible education, transposed with the call of youths to youths, to help other youths, will be enough to rally funds to support the cause. Furthermore, we feel that this project should not be one structured along the arbitrary geopolitical divisions of national boundaries, but rather, one that spans across culture, place and country to the overarching verity of youths contributing back to their less fortunate counterparts.

I thought this gig was supposedly gonna be held @ Fort Canning?

And also, 6th of July is a Sunday, not Tuesday. You might wanna edit your post.
