You'll definitely want a good preamp into your recording interface.

XT Pro is gd enough. You can just use the USB port to directly record into your PC.

However you shld also combine it with a decent enough guitarist to get a real gd tone out of it.

pod 2.0 is good enough. (www.purevolume.com/blueprintstudios - listen to 20dischanger - solitary(Demo) )
j/k

of course if you got better gear , why not? but honestly, line6 D.I being one of the better guitar amp D.I processors technology still can't compete with the real sound of a (good) amp (well) miked up..

in case you're interested to hear even shittier gears used to record :

Ghost = used Zoom 505ii D.I haha..

after you get a good preamp, make sure you get a good recording soundcard. after you get a good recording take, it'll also take good effort of editing/mixing (read : not good mixing/editing but good effort, you won't mix out a masterpiece rightaway takes alot of passion)

watch your budget
good luck!

pod xt pro has its own soundcard interface? yeah then you wouldn't need a soundcard. but definitely you can't compare the podxt pro's "soundcard" vs the other "dedicated" soundcards in the market.

good preamps :

presonus is quite clean (bluetube DP)
focusrite
