Default Help with Home Recording (Toneport UX2)

Hey guys i just got the Line6 Toneport UX2 and i seem to have lotsa difficulties using it and have some questions i would like to ask a guys.

1) The software it came with (Ableton Live Lite 5) seems soooo user unfriendly and i don't know how to playback what i record. Do you guys reccommend getting another recording software? I tried it with Audacity but it don't seem to work.

2) For those who are familiar with it, what are the maximum input recordings i can do simultaneously? like there are 2 mics and 2 guitars but i don't think its possible to do all at once. Would like to know before i buy another mic.

3) And as for the drums, i dont think it comes with a drumming software right? But i have a friend who has an electronic drumset at home. Is it possible to record the drums through either of the input on the toneprot ux2?

4) And for the mics, i only have the type with the input similiar to guitars so i have to use the guitar input. would you guys reccommend to get the one with the 3-pin input? Having that enables me to use the Phantom power on my toneport right?

Yup that's about all i have to ask for now. Thanks alot for your time guys! =)

1) i think theres some tutorial stuffs on youtube that teaches you how to use it? i got ux1 but i nv use albeton live, i use the garageband on my mac.
For audacity, did u on your gearbox before u record on it?
Did you select the input location to be you gearbox ux2?
If all this are done, i think its possible to record it.

2)I think its possible to use all inputs at once. You can select the input for different recording channel. Like mono 1 is 1st mic input, mono2 is 2nd mic input , mono 3 is guitar input so on so on.

3) If the drum's output is already processed. meaning its a form of sound instead of jus midi signal. Yes its possible.
I record my synth on the guitar input as well.
ahha

4) phantom power is only used for condenser mics.
A XLR (the 3 pin) is a balanced signal if im not wrong. Your mic should be XLR but the cable is a converter. An xlr on the end and a 1/4" jack on the other.
Lesser noise if on a balanced signal.

Good luck with your recording. =)

Another UX2 user here.

I also used the bundled software initially, but I found it was a bit complicated. I highly recommend Reaper, it's free & very user friendly for a noob like me

congrats.

condolences.

1) you can try youtube google see how others demonstrate on usage of ableton live lite 5 with ux2. i don't have a UX2 so I can't tell you for sure how audacity works with ux2. but there's this basic "pattern" where you just configure windows xp : UX2 as your default PLAYBACK soundcard and RECORDING soundcard. then Audacity : UX2 as input/output and it should work.

2) this one I don't know how many simultaneous tracks.. if you need to do huge simultaneous live recording you might wanna buy a mics > mixer > ux2 > your pc.

3) Edrums > sound module > headphone/mono L and R output > UX2 > your PC.

4) the mics you have are called unbalanced or mics with "1/4jack input". the 3 pin one is called XLR. and XLR is the standard mics you should go for. do read my DIY FAQ @
