Are you associated with Keyboard Theatre in any way? The post looks suspiciously like an ad. If it is meant to be an ad, please pm SOFT (aka James) for ad space to be fair to all retailers.

Otherwise...to reply to the post, there's never a best keyboard. Each has strength and weaknesses. Nord Stage 88 is good in many areas, but not every area. The ultimate keyboard has never been made yet. Just because there are so many personal preferences.

I'm a new nord fan.
I think it covers quite a bit of ground actually, just lesser known here. Saw it a lot when i was in the US. But yes of course, i agree, personal preference. The Yamaha's do have extremely real piano sounds which i think are great. Havent tried the roland RD700 EX tho. Any views on that?

RDs are very robust and heavy duty. Still see RDs in their 6 or 7 years of service.Bend well with bands or few more instrument and still clearly stand out. As solo, yamaha may be better.

i reali have to second cheez that there is no ultimate keyboard, no matter hardware or softsynth, becos of the immense ,versatile, diverse specs and personal preferences, perhaps there will never ever be. The ultimate one that can prob do anything and everything may prob still get lashed for being too ex or heavy or lack focus, identity etc.

some companies are alreay tryin that(all in one kinda stuff) witout much success in mainstream market, i.e Alesis's FUSION synth , Neko and even Korg discontinued its OASYS.

Nord may be getting a little more exposure for its efficent marketing and prominent users/artists but there are many companies out there who may not neccessarily be inferior to Clavia. I reali love the red design but after comparing the demos in youtube of other synths and tryin out a nord for the first time, i;m impressed but still feel that its a little over-hyped.(personal opinion hor..the nord wave is still wely cool....:P)

perhaps u can check out Wardorf, Access ,Davesmith,Oberheim, and of cos ,Moog(yay!!) if u are interested in non workstation( non -sequencer,non bread and butter sounds) synthesizers. Softsynth wise , Omnisphere seeems to be making quite a wave in the US. Hook it up to cool red colored CME VX motorised midi controller , blast away and peeps may forget about nord as the only red monster ..! perhaps its not a matter of the ultimate keyboard anymore but rather whos the ultimate engine/sound set or ultimate controller?

i;m sure many softies in soft here can offer much more names i;ve yet to heard of, pls share!!

There's also Arturia's Origin. And of course the new Solaris designed the synth guru John Bowen.

With the combination of sound, touch, features, controls, expandability etc, it's hard to find a perfect match. Hence why we prefer to use a few keyboards instead of just one...

Actually, aireydon, I really like the Fusion. It's one synth that I can create some really unusual sound easily and on the fly (and really easily too - don't have to go deep into menus etc), sounds that I don't get on other synths. Too bad it didn't quite take off.

For EP, I'd love to have the real thing.... http://www.rhodespiano.com/ yum!

I've played a real Hammond B3 through a leslie and it is definitely bigger and badder than a Nord. Not really gig ready though.

IMHO, Arturia Origin is just too expensive for what it is. I'd rather a lappy, a controller and Reaktor. It would still work out cheaper.

Personally, I find RD700SX/GX way better than any other stage pianos. For stage piano, the key feature is ergonomics. You need to have the right buttons/switch at the exact place to get things done quickly on the fly during a live performance. You need maximum control over the sounds including layering and splitting, controlling individual patches within a layer etc. So far, I can't find a stage piano to have achieved this in a stage piano other than RD700SX/GX.

Does that make Roland RD700SX/GX the best? No. It's good. VERY good. But no, it's not the best. Because, there is no best. Perhaps we can have a thread to list what are the key features in each category of keyboard (digital piano, synth, stage piano, workstation, arranger, controller etc) that would make a "dream" keyboard within that category and see which one fits it the closest. Anybody wants to start?

I'd love to see polyphonic aftertouch on a modern controller keyboard.
