EQ pedals are used to emphasize certain frequencies.. Hence some effects makers prefer to sell treble boosters (which was popularized by Vox) as the added high end helps the guitar cuts through the mix during solos..
Since you need a volume boost, the best option is to get a VOLUME booster.. Any other form of booster will affect your tone.. For example, a light OD (AC booster, TS9, etc) will increase the gain of your ds-1, thereby altering the original tone of your distorted signal..
Clean boosts can be cheap or expensive.. EHX LPB-1 is cheap, but gets the job of done.. If you're more particular, then a MI Audio Boost N Buff is pretty cool, cause after 12 o'clock it is a treble boost.. If you need more knobs, I guess the Xotic RC Booster, or Goosonique Boosty is for you!
