Those are very different pedals. What kind of tones do you hope to achieve with them?

But if I had to just choose? MIJ DS1. Thats it. I'll never touch a stock DS1 anymore, its crap to me. The TS series has this irritating mid boost, better for single coils, not so for humbuckers, and a boat load of compression.

TS. But it would be better to chain those two pedals together for different combinations. If you're more into blues then TS, rock then ds-1. But stock ds-1 tone isn't really very nice alone, so maybe getting ts first is better. If you mod the ds1, then that's a different story.

DS1 mods to consider, Analogman DS1, what the DS1 should be in the first place, I like this one, a monster of a tone from the old DS1. Keeley DS1, mainly for boosting IMO, doesn't sound very ds1 anymore, kind of overpriced. Randolf DS1, he can do (almost) anything with it!!!!

There's also www.cmatmods.com the Tubeslammer, a TS clone but with True Bypass and better quality components. Cheap too. A new TS9DX @ Swee Lee is $250.

i bought my TS9DX for SGD$39.00, believe it or not @ Toa Payoh Cash Convertor. sumtime back. still in great condition. mixed it with my BOSS DS1 (MIJ) ( TS9DX + DS1 then thru any amps ) it realli gives a killer heavy warm sound.

individually, these pedals have their own special character.

BOSS' OD3 is a closer rival to the tubescreamer, unlike the DS1

Ok this is what I can tell you from MY point of view. Anyone can disagree to it.

I tried a MIJ DS-1 and a MIJ TS808 to a Fender Hot Rod. Using a Fender strat.

The MIJ Ds-1 sounded very crunchy, abit too bassy but it was alright for me. Thick and chunky to summarise.

TS808 is very smooth, gives you a very bluesy tone. Pretty much SRV sound. (He is using ts808 too )

And yes both pedals are very different. Depending on what sound you want.
