Default Whats a good starter bass

I'm new in this bass stuff,

and my budget would be rather low,
$200-250 perhaps?

Any idea what model I should be looking out for?

And I certainly would not mind 2nd handed basses.

my recommendations for starter units:

*Timbre Jazz/ P-bass
*Samick Fairlane
*OLP- any models

they cost more than your stipulated budget though...

a good starter bass is:
  • one that you can afford.
  • one that feels good to play in your hands.
  • one that is easy on your pocket.
  • one that sounds good to your ears.
scour the Bass Buy/Sell threads often (: there are potential ones available as we speak. http://soft.com.sg/forum/bass-buy-sell/

I've been playing bass for about 2 years now, and i'm still using the starter kit i bought at davis guitar in peninsulla, it's 4 string, the body comes in a variety of colours and so far hasnt gave me any problems. The brand is SX, i know many beginner bassists whom use it. Cost at 250 bucks including guitar bag, tuner, amplifier and the bass guitar itself. Used it for a couple of performances already.

You could try Squier, not very expensive, in my view.

My first bass is a Hofner! And still a Hofner!
