hmm what kind of strings do you normally use? flat wound or round wound? nickel wound or steel wound?

what the different between flat woung and round wound? and nickel wound and steel wound? i'm just starting to play bass and had no nothing about it, heheheh

D'addario - $20 (Ranking at Bras Basah)
Rotosound - $24-26 (Davis)
I usually use round wound, nickel, G string 0.45 (think its light gauge)
La bella strings also quite nice. DR a bit ex for me.
