What sound you're looking for plus your budget would help tons.

For the neck i understand it would cost abt 500 bucks, for the pickups i dont mind investing 2 to 300 bucks onwards.i dont know if i can achieve a strong bright sound with a precision setup.i feel that the stock pickups are rather weak so i need sumthing that can cut through the mix.i know that getting a different bass would be better with a setup like a jazz or a double buck, i still wanna see how much better a precision setup can sound with diff pickups.what would be a good choice for pickups?

if u really want ur sound to cut thru, more gain, tone... i'll suggest u get a preamp.. depending on ur budget..

aguilar tone hammer
ebs mircobass
xotic bass rc booster
sadowsky bass preamp
radial bassbone

but yea, most of the sound really depend on ur body wood and neck.. but i assume a preamp can help much on the output and tone

Preamp for a P bass? Sacrilege...

If you want to do something radical, instead of buying a new neck, use that cash to do a reverse routing for the P pickups and drop a set of Nordstrand NP4 inside.

It's like adding a ton of cornstarch to your tone

thx for the input guys.Btw i tried using the preamp on my gt-6b to get that bite but i feel it just doesnt sound right,as in like there is no body to the tone so i figured that changing the pickup may help.Abt the neck, i need a replacement cos i did a major mistake of not detuning after an outdoor show, causing it to warp and crack along the neck.Nothing to be done but to replace it.Argh.Major lesson learnt!so i need good suggestions for places with good prices for p bass necks.Btw is a p bass supposed to cut through?

i think its because in extreme climate conditions, the stress from string tension will damage the neck... which is why the bass is always detuned when in transport
